Jackalberry
Lodge is situated within the Thornybush Private Game Reserve, one of the
worlds premier big five game viewing areas.
The majestic
Drakensberg Mountains provide a spectacular backdrop for this intimate
camp, offering magnificent views, understated luxury and restful, ethnic
ambiance that blends harmoniously with nature. The lodge is named after
the beautiful Jackalberry Tree that occurs widely in the bushveld. The
bush around the lodge teems with game.

lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino, hyena and cheeta. Jackalberry is also a
paradise for birdwatchers, where more than 280 species have been recorded.

and Boma.

How
to get there:
Travelling
from JHB take the N12 highway to Witbank • From Witbank the N12 becomes
the N4, keep travelling towards Belfast • Turn off the N4 at Belfast, travel
through the center of Belfast • Take the R540 to Dullstroom, Lydenburg
• Go through Lydenburg, take the R36 to Ohrigstad • Go through Ohrigstad
following the R36, towards the J.G. Strijdom tunnel • After the tunnel
take he R531 (Orpen Gate). Carry on along the R531 • Then take the R40
to Hoedspruit (turn left on R40) • Then take the first road right – Gurnsey
Road (You will see the signs before the road indicating all the different
lodges, including Jackalberry lodge sign) • When you pass on your right-hand
side, Cheetah Inn, slow down as the road becomes a sand road. Keep heading
along this road until you come t a T-junction • At the T-junction turn
Right. Be careful this road is extremely bad when wet. The Jackalberry
Gate is ± 2km on your left hand side • Once inside the Reserve,
follow the signs to Jackalberry Lodge Note: 1. The road from Dullstroom
to Lydenburg has many potholes 2. The distance from Johannesburg to Jackalberry
Lodge is ± 486km and takes roughly between 5 and 6 hours
