Montagu Vines is situated in the historic conservation area of Montagu. The main farmhouse was built between 1900 and 1910 and reflects the early Victorian-influenced Karoo-styled farmhouses of that period. 

You can relax in the splash pool set in the tranquil gardens with magnificent old oak and milkwood trees. Alternatively, you could lounge on the lawns with glorious views of the vineyards and surrounding mountains, sipping a glass of Chenin Blanc produced from grapes from our vines.

Montagu Vines is just a stroll away from the centre of Montagu with its amenities that cater for all tastes and interests. There are restaurants, bistros, historic churches and tranquil gardens for the visitor to enjoy.  Montagu Vines is the perfect place for those intimate weekends, birthdays, and anniversaries or as a stopover whilst discovering “Route 62” and all it has to offer. 

You may be lucky and see the “resident” owls perched in the old oak tree or meet one of the big tortoises in the vineyard that visit from the adjacent nature reserve.

Montagu Vines offers 5 garden rooms and 2 rooms in the main farmhouse (separate entrance with own patios). 

The tastefully decorated garden rooms include a fireplace and are en-suite with a verandah that overlooks the garden and vineyard with the spectacular mountains as a backdrop.

The 2 rooms in the main farmhouse combine old world charm with modern en-suite facilities.

In the morning a full breakfast is served in the main farmhouse.  This consists of a buffet and cooked breakfast. This is a feast of fresh fruit in season, yoghurt, homemade muesli and cereals, cold meats, cheese, freshly baked rolls and croissants, fresh fruit juice followed by your choice of eggs, bacon, tomatoes and mushrooms.

Please note that smoking is only permitted outdoors and children should be over 12 years of age.

Route 62 is the historical route, which was the main link between Port Elizabeth, the Garden Route and Cape Town before the N2 highway was built.

It not only offers a 70km shorter option between Cape Town and Oudsthoorn with less trucks and motor traffic, but also runs through the most beautiful mountain passes, alternated by typical Klein Karoo vegetation, vineyards and fruit orchards. It passes through beautifully preserved villages where it seems as though time has stood still. These villages include Barrydale, Ladismith and Calitzdorp.

The quaint village of Montagu lies nestled between two mountains in western Kannaland. It was once known as “Agter Cogmans Kloof”. A unique rural atmosphere distinguishes Montagu as one of the best-preserved late Victorian villages in the Cape. It is strategically situated between the Garden Route and Cape Town. 

The weather is perfect – far enough South to escape the heat of the “Klein Karoo”; yet far enough North to get away from the long wet winters of the Cape.

The area offers a rich history – the most interesting museums being the Montagu Museum, Joubert House (the oldest local house), the British Fort, the old Mission Church and the natural gardens in the village.

The healing powers of the Hot Springs healing have been enjoyed for over 200 years. The water is a continuous flow through the complex. Day visitors are most welcome (7 days a week).
