The
Palace of the Lost City at Sun City Resort ...
Legend
has it that an ancient civilisation from North Africa journeyed South to
build a palace for their much-loved King.
They stopped
in a long-extinguished volcano crater – a veritable cradle of life. A place
where weird and wonderful creatures, both great and small, roamed free
amidst glittering streams and dreamy waterfalls. Here, they built a magnificent
palace to befit the surroundings; their King was well-pleased. And so,
the palace served as the spiritual centre of their vast empire until an
earthquake reduced it to ruins. Now, restored in form and rejuvenated in
spirit, The Palace of the Lost City is a modern day marvel that will make
your journey, legendary.

In
an open courtyard, stands the life-size bronze statue of Shawu. One of
the Kruger National Park’s magnificent seven elephants. Famous for his
tusks. Shawu moved over a large range which spanned the flat Mopane-covered
plains between the Letaba and Shingwedzi rivers. He drifted around slowly
with his three meter long tusks servings a compass through the African
bush.
The
architecture of the Palace is a homage to both art and nature. From
the majestic entrance with its mosaic marble floors, souring columns and
eighty feet high frescoed rotunda, to many intricate design accents taken
directly from nature. The elephant reigns supreme in the Crystal
Court restaurant. A most elegant setting for breakfast, lunch and
dinner. Piano music accompanies the evening hours with chamber music
during the serving of lavish afternoon teas.

A
fantasy jungle of rare and exotic vegetation, recreates the living image
of a Royal African world of peace and pleasure. It is a jungle of
contrasts where orchids dangle from the canopy of the rain forest and centuries-old
baobabs stand sentinel on a hilltop.
Meandering
footpaths of discovery, wind past rushing streams, cascades of sparkling
water and tranquil pools. Torches light the way to the foot of the
Royal Staircase where guests can follow the Hippo Gorge Trail to the Hidden
Cave Falls.
The
Royal Staircase also links the Valley of Waves to the Palace of The Lost
City via the Old East Gate Bridge.

THE VALLEY OF WAVES
The Valley of Waves is the
central feature of the Lost City at Sun City. Part of the magical legend
of the Lost City.
It is one of the most advanced
water parks in the world, dominated by the Roaring Lagoon, a 6 500-square
metre (7560-square yards) wave pool with a palm-fringed beach. Hydraulic
mechanisms can generate a 1,8 metre (6 feet 8 inches) wave every 90 seconds.
When waves are not generated, a bobbing cycle is generated in a diamond
pattern.
All Resort residents enter
the park free of charge by presenting their resident cards. For all day
visitors there is an entrance fee to the park.
