Cape
Town, South Africa, City of Beauty and History by Anne Sewell
I can just imagine the thoughts
of Portuguese explorer Bartholemew Diaz, when he first discovered
the Cape in 1488. Coming in from the sea to this glorious and mountainous
landscape must have been truly wondrous! Cape Town has come
a very long way from its initial stages as home to the nomadic Khoi people
and later to the Dutch settlers of Jan van Riebeek of the Dutch East India
Company. Now a truly international city of sprawling proportions,
all the cliches that have been applied to Cape Town are completely true
- the Mother City, The Most Beautiful City in the World.... all with
that stunning and beautiful backdrop - the amazing Table Mountain....read

Upmarket suburb
on the Atlantic Seaboard, between Sea Point and the towns of Clifton and
Camps Bay - a short drive from the city centre and with beaches, shops
and restaurants close by. Surrounded by scenery - mountains, sea
views. Bantry Bay overlooks Clifton, in the heart of the most exclusive
residential stretch on Cape Town's Atlantic coastline. Bantry Bay is also
centrally located for easy access to entertainment venues, world-class
shopping centres and restaurants. The area looks out onto the Atlantic
Ocean and Robben Island and with a near-perfect climate and sheltered in
the lee of Signal Hill. |

de Wet, Boutique Hotel/B&B, BANTRY BAY
52
de Wet is a spectacular lodge overlooking the Atlantic Ocean in Cape Town’s
most exclusive neighborhood of Bantry Bay. The lodge sits perched on the
slopes of Signal Hill tucked in right under the massive outcrop of Lion’s
Head. Lion’s Head is probably the most important factor contributing to
the exclusive character of Bantry Bay. The gigantic rock structure casts
a protective shield over the entire bay and provides complete shelter from
the infamous South Easter winds that often ravage through the Cape during
summer. Because of this, Bantry Bay and a slice of neighboring Clifton
are the only wind free areas in Cape Town. This blessing from nature, combined
with the extraordinary setting on the steep sloping hillside, allowing
for the most spectacular views over the Ocean, has been the cornerstone
for the success of the neighborhood. |

Camps
Bay is an affluent suburb of Cape Town, South Africa. In the African
summer it is a hotbed of European tourists as well as local South Africans
down for a beach holiday. It hosts beach volleyball tournaments as well
as a refreshing nightlife. Camps Bay is named after an invalid sailor,
Ernst Friedrich von Kamptz, who settled there in 1778.
The
back of Table Mountain, the Table Mountain cableway and the Twelve Apostles
Mountain Range form a backdrop to the Camps Bay family beach. |

The
surf is strong here and there is no resident lifeguard, but a rescue helicopter
patrols regularly.
The
grass verge flanked by the Camps Bay tidal pool offers shady, wind-free
barbecue spots. Trendy Shops, restaurants, a hotel, chemist, banks and
police station are close to the beach.
The
best time of the year to visit Camps Bay as a tourist is November through
March, allthough it can be a bit windy during November and December. The
plethora of restaurants with the beach just across the road gives you many
things to do in Camps Bay, and being just over the hill (about 10 minutes
drive) from central Cape Town, it's the perfect location for your summer
away from home.
